24th – 28th August 2026, Dartmoor National Park
N.B. The deadline for applications has passed.
This seventh edition of British Isles Graduate Workshop (BIGW) will be in Devon, from the 24th to the 28th of August 2026. It is targeted at PhD students and postdocs but is open to applications from all. The workshop will provide them with an opportunity to collaborate under the guidance of experienced mentors in a supportive, encouraging, and mathematically intense atmosphere. The format of the workshop is that three mentors propose three topics, split into six talks each, and participants sign up to give the talks.
The meeting is held in-person only (no online option) at the YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. We will aim to have around 20 participants.
Participants will be required to pay a registration fee of £120, and will receive full board (accommodation and meals) at the venue. Accommodation will be provided from Sunday night until Thursday night, so that participants can arrive on Sunday and depart on the following Friday evening after the conference has ended.
The YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor hostel is a twenty-minute walk from the Okehampton Railway Station, which is on the Dartmoor Line. Direct services operate from Exeter, to which arrive direct services from London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. Close-by airports are Exeter and Bristol, and though London is further away, the rail journey from London Heathrow Airport to Okehampton is around four hours, whilst the journey from London Gatwick is not more than five hours. A slightly more exotic option is to sail by ferry into Plymouth, from which there are direct trains to Exeter.
